Behind the Network - Altitude's Senior Staff:
Jim Martin - CEO and President
Martin joins Altitude Sports Network following successful stints at a number of major media corporations. In the mid-1990s, he was the first Chief Operating Officer of FOX Sports Net, overseeing all aspects of that network's launch and operation. He was subsequently promoted to Executive Vice President, Head of Business Operations for FOX/Liberty Networks, which owned such networks as FOX Sports Net and its regional sports networks, FX, FOX Sports World and FOX Sports Americas, as well as partnership interests in other networks such as Speedvision and Outdoor Life. He was instrumental in creating and launching new FOX Sports Net regionals, FOX Sports Net Arizona, FOX Sports Net Detroit and FOX Sports Net West 2.
Prior to joining FOX, Martin was President of Regional Network Operations for Liberty/Prime Sports. In that position, Martin was responsible for overseeing and managing Liberty Media Corporation's owned-and-operated regional networks, as well as managing Liberty Media's investments in other regional channels. He joined Liberty Media in 1991 as Vice President/COO. In 1990, Martin joined Liberty's parent company, Tele-Communications, Inc. as a corporate attorney. Most recently, Martin has served as a consultant to various cable television programming services, specializing in particular in regional sports.
A 1977 graduate of the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Martin was graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1980 with a Juris Doctor degree. Martin, his wife Jana, and their children reside in Denver.
Matt Hutchings - COO and EVP
Matt Hutchings has responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Altitude’s television and radio networks. He brings over 24 years experience in the broadcasting and media industry, including his involvement in the launch and operation of over 45 radio and television networks worldwide. Prior to Altitude, he was the President & CEO of HMG International, a creative agency and media consulting firm.
Beginning his career with a CBS affiliate, Hutchings moved from broadcast news and entertainment into the regional sports business, where he oversaw the on air operations for the Prime Sports Network group, which today is Fox Sports Net. Hutchings was also involved in the launch and operation of two of the world’s largest multi channel – multi country networks; STAR TV in Asia and Orbit Satellite Television and Radio Network in the Middle East and North Africa, where he served as Senior Vice President of Programming and Production, as well as Executive Producer for Orbit’s ESPN sports channel. An award-winning producer and director, he graduated from Texas A&M University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Sociology: Hutchings and his wife Shari have four children.
Bruce Glazer - CFO and EVP
Glazer joins Altitude Sports Network as CFO following more than 10 years at food processing giant, ConAgra Foods, Inc., where he held numerous senior financial positions within the company's various divisions -- including Vice President/CFO, VP/Controller, VP/Assistant to the President, VP/Corporate Controller, and Director of Planning. His responsibilities included all financial matters related to strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, operations, and information systems. Prior to ConAgra, Glazer was with the accounting firm Ernst & Young and Iowa-based Master Manufacturing Co. A 1980 graduate of the University Colorado with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Glazer is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants. He and his family reside in Denver. Glazer oversees all financial matters for Altitude Sports and Entertainment.
Tom Philand - SVP of Advertising Sales & Marketing
Philand joins the Altitude team after serving as Vice President of Marketing for Kroenke Sports Enterprises since August of 2000. Prior to joining KSE, Philand worked for The Denver Post and King Soopers, the Rocky Mountain region's leading grocer. He initiated King Soopers' first major sports sponsorship with the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Rockies, while working in the Marketing Department. Philand also serves on the Development Board of The Children's Hospital Foundation, the Board of the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame and the Membership Committee for the Downtown Denver Partnership. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Philand attended the University of Colorado.
Shelly Harper - SVP of Programming and Creative Services
Harper has over 20 years experience in television programming, scheduling and production. She began her career at Home Sports Entertainment in 1982. As a freelance graphics operator, her clients included CBS, ESPN, Raycom Sports, SportsChannel and Home Sports Entertainment (HSE). She also worked as an Associate Producer and Producer for many professional team events in Houston for HSE, and as the program director for Prime Sports Southwest. From 1996-1999 she served as Director of Programming and from 1999-2001 as VP of Scheduling and Program Operations for FOX Sports Net at their corporate headquarters in Los Angeles. Harper has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. She is a member of the National Association of Television Programming Executives, Women's Sports Foundation, Women in Sports Careers, Women in Cable and Telecommunications, and the Rotary Club.
Steve Thomas - SVP of Production
Steve Thomas joined Altitude Sports & Entertainment in 2007 with nearly 35 years of experience in the broadcast business. He got his start in television in 1973 at KCPX (ABC) (now KTVX) in Salt Lake City, where he freelanced almost every weekend during the college football/ basketball seasons in various positions, mostly tape operator and TD. Thomas moved to Denver in 1982 and started at KMGH TV (CBS) as a TD/Director. In 1987 he became the Remote Production Manager where one of his duties was “The John Elway Show” as well as all remote non-news productions. While at KMGH he was awarded two Regional “Emmy’s” as a Technical Director and nominated for two others as Director and Editor and was also awarded a National “Telly” for Directing.
Thomas has held positions in every department of a TV station, including: sales, promotions, engineering, production, operations, and business, but his first and foremost love is production and directing. In 1990, Thomas left KMGH start RBI (Remote Broadcasts Inc.). In last year with RBI and before joining Altitude in 2007, Thomas produced or directed the Colorado Mammoth NLL season, the Colorado Rapids MLS soccer finals, the Air Force Academy Wing Open Boxing Championship, a Big Sky Basketball Championship game, the Greeley Stampede Finals Rodeo, plus various music events at Red Rocks.
Phillip Mallios - SVP of Affiliate Sales and Marketing
As Vice President of Affiliate Sales, Mallios with be responsible for securing distribution agreements for Altitude Sports Network via negotiations with cable operators and satellite (DBS) providers. Serving his entire 18-year professional career in cable sports television affiliate sales, marketing and relations, Mallios was previously director of affiliate relations for TFN -The Football Network, responsible for distribution of the start-up national network in the central and western United States. He has also been Vice President, Affiliate Sales and Marketing for ACTV, Inc., as well as holding numerous affiliate sales positions with FOX Sports Southwest and its precursor, Home Sports Entertainment (HSE). Mallios, a 1984 graduate of the University of Houston with a Business Administration degree, is married with two daughters.
Dave Zur - SVP of Operations and Engineering
Zur joins Altitude Sports and Entertainment as Vice President of Operations after serving as Chief Broadcast Engineer for Kroenke Sports Enterprises since September 2001. Prior to joining KSE, Zur served as a freelance engineer involved in broadcast facilities integrations for the Pepsi Center, ESPN, Fox Sports Rocky Mountain and remote production trucks for Mountain Mobile and Lone Star Television. Zur is currently overseeing the construction of Altitude's multimillion-dollar studio facility at Crown Media International in Greenwood Village, Colorado. Since joining the media profession 16 years ago, Zur has worked on more than 1,000 events, including the 1996 Summer Olympics for NBC and the 1996 Republican National Convention for PBS. Zur holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Media Communications from Metropolitan State College of Denver. Zur resides in Littleton with his wife, Jenny, and son, Michael.
