Statement from Altitude Sports regarding Tonight's Avalanche broadcast
New Season, Same Comcast
Tonight, our Colorado Avalanche will take to the ice for the first time this year against the St. Louis Blues – and we couldn’t be more excited for the NHL season.
While Comcast continues to black-out the Avalanche games, Altitude will not stop fighting for our fans. What Comcast wants from us is a deal that would put Altitude out of business and raise prices on our fans – and we won’t stand for it. Altitude has brought sports to Denver-region fans for over 15 years. We know you’re frustrated. We are, too. But we will continue pursuing new ways to provide coverage.
There also seems to be some misinformation about tonight’s season opener. NBC has decided to pick up the maximum number of Avalanche games allowed by the NHL this season. Seven of which they get to take exclusively on their network meaning Altitude does not get to broadcast those seven games. NBC decided NOT to make tonight’s game one of those exclusive broadcasts, which means they are required to adhere to local broadcasting rights as established by the NHL by blacking out their broadcast inside of Altitude’s local broadcast territory.
Right now, fans who subscribe to DirecTV, AT&T TV, Charter’s Spectrum TV, and multiple other cable companies throughout our territory can watch the Avalanche on Altitude.
The Avs are coming off a huge season last year and we promise to do all we can to ensure our fans can cheer them on this season.
